Chivas Alexia Hernandez signs with Clarke University

Last winter Chivas goalkeeper Alexia Hernandez committed to play for the Clarke University located in Dubuque, Iowa.  This past April on an official visit with her immediate family she was offered an athletic scholarship totally nearly $168,000 for four years and decided to officially sign to play for the Pride which are a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division 1 program that compete int the Heart Of America Athletic Conference.

On why Alexia decided on Clarke University when she was receiving interest by NCAA Division programs of the likes: Hampton University (D1), UNLV (D1), Tulsa (D1), Fresno Pacific (D2), UC Santa Cruz (D3):  The student-faculty ratio at the private university is 8:1 and nearly 75% of classes have less than 20 students which the future biochemistry major found appealing. Hernandez plans to also pursue a career in the medical field where she hopes to become a physician’s assistant.

Alexia was part of the South Valley Chivas 99G team which played numerous years in the State Division of the NorCal Premier league.  There a couple of players from that particular Chivas team who continue to play soccer at the collegiate level.  Just to name a few Valeria Rios (Highline College, Seattle, Wa) and Alexis Baca (Bakersfield College).
